The theater was opened to public in 1983 but the construction of the 80,000 m building started already in 1972. Nowadays it covers a surface of around 22,000 m. The name of the theater is worth to be explained as Teresa Carreño was a Venezuelan pianist, who was considered to be one the most talented pianists in Latin America during the 19th and 20th centuries. She showed her talent starting from the age of five, considered unusual for a woman in that time, in the best theaters of cities all around the world, New York, Paris and even Australia!
The theater is very beautiful architecturally speaking and the most important hall is called the Sala Rios Reyna, which has around 2,300 seats located perfectly for you to have the best view as possible. There are continuous cultural events and concerts at very cheap prices; it is only necessary to check the program periodically. Check out the Nutcracker (with live orchestra) from their ballet department- this presentation is at the level of the best ballets of the world and you get it for a ridiculous price if compared to the international average, so if you have the chance to see it, do not hesitate!
And if you are around the Caracas area and you are lucky enough, you may even have the chance to see the Youth Symphonic Orchestra of the theater which is considered already one of the most promising orchestras in the world. Or you may have the privilege to enjoy the Simon Bolivar Orchestra under the conduction of Gustavo Dudamel (born 1981)- the Venezuelan young eminence who is also the current conductor of Los Angeles Philharmonic! Here you may see it for a price equivalent to a few dollars, in the rest of the world you will have to pay lots for having the same chance if you manage to get a ticket, that is.
Closest metro station to the theatre is "Bellas Artes".
