Costa Rica is known to be a country perfect for ecotourism, and what better way to do this than going up to the clouds and experiencing the magnificence of the Irazú Volcano? Sure, it rains a lot in this country, but if you wake up early and head up to the volcano you have good chances to see it with no clouds and an open blue sky.
The blue/green pool found in the crater makes a great image for you photographs, and if it weren’t for the wood fence that keeps you from falling in the crater you can actually feel like you are floating over it, enabling an oppurtunity to see a side of the volcano you might not get to see otherwise. As a bonus, if you are lucky you might get to interact with the various animals, like the “pizotes” that roam around the volcano. They have become so accustomed to people you have to be careful or they will steal your food!
What’s great about the trip to the volcano is that you don’t have to wait until you are up there to feel like you are seeing something new. The whole ride up goes through the mountains where you get to see wild forests, potato and onion plantations, and charming little towns in the middle of the mountain. It goes without saying that while you are riding up the mountain the view of Cartago and the Central Valley is wonderful. So if you want to see a view of Costa Rica from the clouds, this volcano is the place to go!
