Suomenlinna Museum
Why locals love it?
Suomenlinna has a really interesting history, paralleling Finland's history - first under Swedish rule, then under the Russians. The fortress island was an important defence outpost along the eastern coastline and played a pivotal role in many a conflict.
Why you should visit it
Experience the rugged life of the fortress builders as well as the flourishing social lives and leisure pursuits of the officers of Viapori (another name for Suomenlinna). The permanent exhibition features utility articles, tools, weaponry and ammunition which have been found in Suomenlinna.
