Magnificent church

Saint Sulpice Church

Why locals love it

Although this church is not as famous as Notre Dame Cathedral, it’s just as gorgeous. It’s a real treasure, especially as it’s not overcrowded with tourists. It was renovated over a period of many years, its beauty partially hidden by high scaffolding. Nowadays however you can fully enjoy this iconic edifice of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Why you should visit it

The style of the church is uncommon. The towers, columns and vaults create an original façade. An interesting fact: Victor Hugo, the author of the famous book The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, married Adèle Foucher here in 1822.

Special tip

There are three murals by the famous artist Eugène Delacroix (painter of Liberty Leading the People) on the walls of the first chapel on the right.
