Why locals love it
As it’s located in the heart of Rome, the Pantheon is a place that locals regularly pass by. Sometimes we need step inside to once again be amazed by its fabulous architecture. “Have you ever seen a building with a hole in its ceiling?” is a local joke.
Why you should visit it
When you enter the Pantheon, lift your head to discover a wonderful surprise. Your attention will be caught by a ray of sunlight shooting down from the “oculus” – a nine metre circular opening at the very top of the dome that illuminates the entire building. If it’s raining, watch the falling droplets disappear into holes in the floor.
Special tip
Visitors aren’t allowed inside during masses (5 pm on Saturdays and 10.30 am on Sundays and religious holidays).
