Just a couple of years ago the Tartu Kaubamaja, which translates into “Tartu Shopping Centre” (they weren't very creative as you can tell) was pretty much the only place where to shop. In the '10s though, the picture is much better. In addition to the, now much larger, Kaubamaja, there are many other bigger (for example the new and ever-expanding Tasku centre) and smaller stores to choose from. Little shops keep popping up like mushrooms after the rain, pleasing your eye and mind, but not your wallet. And that's not because they are that expensive, but because the things they offer (like hand-made jewellery and clothes) are so beautiful you will probably want to buy everything. There isn't a better place to purchase unique items that no one else in the world has than in the “hippie” town of Estonia- Tartu.
