The legendary meeting place for bohemians at heart and in appearance. Hidden in a small alleyway of Lai street Zavood is the place where students might end up raising glasses with their professors. The most colourful bar in Tartu, both literally and metaphorically.
Why you should visit it
While recently the bar has cleaned itself up a bit, it hasn't lost that peculiar drunken charm. A true whirlwind of knitted scarf chaos, travellers in search of something truly "Tartu" must not miss this place.

If all roads lead to Rome, then all the parties end up in Zavood. At least in Tartu. Whenever I have been going out with my friends in Tartu I've passed by Zavood. First time I went there I found the place a bit dodgy and weird. However, I haven't manage to keep myself away from there. I think it's all about the people. The fact that you can talk with stranger like friends, raise a glass with hipsters or take shots with businessmen. I have met some nice guys there :-)
