Why locals love it
This artificial (but big) forest can be found just outside the city on a 20 minute bike from the Museumplein. Forest is a misleading name. It is popular for its wide fields and small pools. Locals go here to run or bike, but also sunbathing swimming or any leisure activity really. There is even a water bike and canoe rental.

Why you should visit it
Although the Amsterdamse Bos is completely artificial, it still creates the feeling of a real forest. The best time to visit is of course in summer, when the sun (and the people) are out here doing their barbecues and throwing their frisbees. But going for a long walk on a windy day is also very pleasant here.
Special tip
Inside the forest there is a little petting zoo with goats, sheep, pigs, cows, horses and chickens which is great for a visit with your kids.
