Only a short bike ride from the center of Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Oost offers a wide array of less crowded and more charming bars and restaurants. Among them is Het Badhuis, where you will find yourself sitting at long picnic tables enjoying a beer or wine overlooking the Javaplein city square.
Built in 1942, Het Badhuis was one of the last public baths to be constructed in Amsterdam. In the 1970s, it quickly became a popular meeting spot for locals. Recently it reopened as a restaurant. You can still see evidence of showers by looking closely behind the bar. Examine the old fixtures such as the black and white tiles on the bottom floor.
Should you be in the mood for an afternoon of high tea, grab a group of ten friends and head to Het Badhuis for 15 euros a person.
