The Plantage Area

Why locals love it

Amsterdam is: old architecture, beautiful canal-scenery, cool atmosphere - but not many people know that all this can be found in one awesome area: The Plantage (centre/east). It has leisurely parks, cosy cafés (reasonably priced!), a beautiful old zoo, monuments, museums and it is wide, airy and not overcrowded. Perfect for a sunday afternoon.

Why you should visit it

My friends/familymembers that come to visit me usually want to see the regular stuff: Damsquare, Museumsquare, Red Ligth District etc. Those areas are worth a visit, but they don't represent what it's like to live in this city. Want to see Amsterdam like a local? Take a stroll through the Plantage and visit some amazing spots: my friends loved it!

Special tip

If you - like me - love nature, history and simply a nice, warm, fun atmosphere you should definately visit the oldest Dutch zoo: Royal Artis Zoo.
