Every Friday, on the main square next to the Weigh House in Alkmaar, there’s an interesting activity going on: men in colourful costumes are busy running around carrying wheels of cheese. They’re cheese carriers.
What exactly are they doing? This tour includes an explanation, a cheese tasting, cheese shopping and a walk through the vibrant historical centre.
The tour can be combined with Zaanse Schans, the flower fields (only in the springtime) or another historical place nearby.
