We were traveling with a party of 7 and wanted to do a canal cruise that was a bit more personal. After a bit of googling I came across Leemstar which got very good reviews so I decided to book it. I emailed and received confirmation and a link to pay straight away. We also received clear instructions where to meet them on the canal as apparently they can’t put signs up. We took our own cheese platter and alcohol and enjoyed a lovely 90 minute tour of the canals and the Amsterdam light festival. The boat was closed in for our evening cruise and had heating so we were all very warm and cosy. Floris was our Captain and guide and he explained the history of Amsterdam to us and answered any questions we had along the way about life in Amsterdam. If you want a more personalised canal cruise this one is definitely worth the money. We would all highly recommend a cruise on these lovely old boats. Thank Floris for a wonderful cruise.

Great insight on canal life

Our guide, Arnold, was very knowledgeable about various aspects of buildings and locations along the canal, and really was able to provide quite a bit of knowledge about canal life and the politics of the canals nowadays. He has a relaxed and friendly manner that is so much better than the prerecorded stuff on the mega-boats. Also, having fewer passengers on the Leemstar helps contribute to the personlized experience. Highly recommended.
Leemstar and Ivo made our Amsterdam vacation fantastic!

My family, on our recent short trip to Amsterdam, booked a private canal tour with Leemstar Cruises in a restored, fully electric saloon boat. What a fantastic way to see the city! Ivo started the tour by making sure we were comfortable. When we climbed aboard the saloon was warm and inviting, which was important because it was very cold outside. My family settled in to beers, cheese, and stories about the famous Amsterdam canals. Ivo is funny and energetic. His stories range from historical to local jokes and customs. He doesn't act like a stuffy, boring tour guide. He makes you feel welcome, like you're cruising the canals with a good friend. He makes you feel like a local, which is what we always want when we travel. My family wants to experience what it's like to be a part of the culture, and Leemstar and Ivo capture that experience perfectly. We will definitely return to Amsterdam in warmer weather, and we will definitely ride with Leemstar and Ivo again.
