Take a scenic drive out of Amsterdam to fine green fields of Beemster polder. Once upon a time, all the land you will see before you was just water what is now lush farmland, a home of famous windmills and well-ordered landscape of fields, canals and dykes. You will discover one of the most famous examples of how reclaiming land from water is done.
The Zaanse Schans Windmill Village is such a unique part of Netherlands, full of charming wooden houses, mills, barns and fascinating workshops. The walking tour of Zaanse Schans will also take you to experience the rumbling of an authentic mill still used for grinding oil, flour and spices today.
At a local dairy farm you will revel in observing a cheese making lesson as well as sample the best of its creamy and tangy products.
