Anchorage has a lot of trails right in town and this is one of them. Most of the time everyone goes to flattop but then there's no parking and a LOT of people. This trail is just a little but further and very few and generally local people. This has a variety of terrain and beautiful views.
This is a really good alternative to flattop which is touristy and really busy. This gets you out on a great trail without having to fight with the crowds. There is plenty of parking and varied terrain, but is still doable by young and old.
There is a $5 parking fee if you do not have a state park pass. Bring cash and a pen so you can fill out the permit and drop it in the box.
