Athens University Museum8
Why locals love it
The Athens University Museum is housed in one of the few surviving pre-othomanic buildings. Built on the base of Acropolis, it offers a panoramic view of Plaka, Lykavitos and the ancient Agora. When the independent Greek state was formed, the building hosted the first University of Athens from 1837 to 1841.
Why you should visit it
The collections consist of portraits of University Professors, books (teachers textbooks, old and rare editions), manuscripts, letters, diplomas, rare scientific equipment (medicine, physics, chemistry, pharmacology), photographs, medals, stamps and souvenirs of the University. And all that for free.
Tours in English are offered upon request.
