The Athens University Museum is housed in one of the few surviving pre-othomanic buildings. Built on the base of Acropolis, it offers a panoramic view of Plaka, Lykavitos and the ancient Agora. When the independent Greek state was formed, the building hosted the first University of Athens from 1837 to 1841.
