Why locals love it

The Royal Garden was commissioned by Queen Amalia in 1838 & used to accomodate a wide variety of plants & animals. It has a romantic and nostalgic atmosphere and even though it has seen more glorious days you can still lose yourself in the scenic paths & feel a bit of the neoclassic Athens of the 19th & 20th century.

Why you should visit it

The lush and diverse vegetation, the fountains, the hidden pavilions and the scattered antiquities make the National Garden the perfect place for a stroll especially in summer during the hottest hours of the day. There is a beautiful small cafe inside the garden which you should definitely visit for a coffee, even though it is a bit expensive.

Special tip

Keep in mind that the garden closes at sunset every evening.

It's worth visiting the National Garden in Athens. In this garden one can see almost every plant, tree, flower which is cultivated in Greece! Queen Amalia conceived this idea and gave the orders to the royal agriculturists!
