How is the city like? Beaches? The people? If you are just strolling around streets and cities what would it be like? What are some key things to mention if you were writing a book with a part in Athens? Describe the Acropolis.

Hi Joy!

Happy to see that you are so interested in this amazing city :)

It would be hard to describe the whole Athens, but I recommend you to visit both the classical part (from the ancient times) as well as the modern one (including some non touristy neighbourhoods).

In relation to the beaches, there are a few islands pretty close to the capital with much better beaches than the ones in the peninsula. You can go on a day trip there in order to enjoy the warm aegean sea.
There is one more point that we didn’t mention yet: the gastronomy. Please, do eat as much as you can, there are plenty of incredible dishes in this country.

Greetings!

Hello Joy! Athens is the backdrop of our lives here, so depending on the atmosphere, aesthetic you need for your story your characters could visit, remember, highlight different things. Athens is not a singular thing, she is very much alive. Athens 2007 would be different from herself in 2009 or 2015 or 2010. So, 1000 people would have a 1000 different opinions/ experiences. Since this is for a book maybe you could pencil in your current idea and take a long weekend to visit Athens in late spring to experience it for your characters. As far as Acropolis is concerned I am sure that there are documentaries galore to provide you with enough visual stimulation to get an idea about her centrality and importance for the modern city.
