Best neighborhood to stay for a week?

Yia Sou my Athenian friends. I will be in Athens for a week in late September. I'll be doing all of the touristy things by day (Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, etc.) which I know are located in the Plaka neighborhood. My understanding is that Plaka is nice but filled with tourists. In addition to the tourist attractions, I'm coming to Athens to visit the museums, see some of the street art, enjoy the nightlife, and hopefully have some amazing cuisine. Could anyone point me to some other neighborhoods that offer all of these things or at least neighborhoods where I could get to these things fairly easily. Thank you for reading. Efharisto.

Exarheia, Pagrati, Petralona, Koukaki I think are the best options for you. If you want to get a glimpse in these (except Pagrati) and other neighborhoods, check out my article: https://travelista.club/guides/athens-beyond-acropolis-a-guide-to-the-neighborhoods/

Hello my friend!I propose to book a hotel in Stathmos Larissis or Metaxourgio area.Although these neighborhoods have nothing to show they are located very close to the city centre of athens.omonia square, syntagma square, acropolis, plaka are so close that you can reach them by foot.As far as night life I propose to visit kolonaki which is close to syntagma or gkazi (metro station kerameikos).I hope you find my advice helpful. Enjoy my town!

Try www.ultracareapartments.net...the apartments are located in the center of Athens with easy access to all attractions and amenities of Athens
Pagkrati (near Varnava sq.), Mets and Koukaki I think are the best alternatives.

Definitely look into Koukaki or Neos Kosmos (they are close to each other).
Very central, close to metro but not too chaotic.
I would avoid Monastiraki and Exarcheia.

Hi, we've stayed twice at Koukaki (Syggrou Fix station) that's about a 10 minute walk from Plaka, Acropolis, Monostiraki etc. and will say there again. Easy access to all of Athens (including Glyfada and Pireus), some nice homes and plenty of good food - home delivered too!

Hello Annan! Koukaki or Petralona is a great place to stay if you want to be somewhere near the attractions and museums, but also full of places with greek people in every ages where you can eat, drink and have fun. DO NOT stay in Omonia, Stathmos Larissis, Plateia Viktorias. Is quite dangerous. When I'm going to a theater near there I don't take my car. I hope you will have great time in our town!

In addition to Koukaki and Petralona I would also suggest to check Pagkrati where you can even walk to Syntagma, Plaka etc. If you don't care about a few stops of metro then Panormou and Cholargos are also worth checking as there are many bars and restaurants in both areas, a bit more classy in Cholargos.

Metaxourgeio is a former work class area that also is cool and About Omonoia it is an urban myth now that is danger there to the old hotels take place the bienalle of Athens and one of the most shopping center for the Athenians is opened there few years ago.
Hello my friend, i suggest you to look at Ano Petralona. This neighborhood is close to Thiseio metro station and for your nightlife you can go to Gazi. I hope that I can help you. Enjoy your stay in Athens.

Hello, close to Plaka is Koukaki district, a typical Athenian neighborhood full of nice cool restaurants, cafes and small bars. Also close to Monastiraki square is Psiri neighborhood a former work class area, that now is full of cool small restaurants and cafes. Close to Thiseion is Petralona another cool district that only locals know. Let me know if you need to learn something more. Enjoy your time in Athens.
Best,
Eleni

Staying at Syntagma square points you to the center and nearby Plaka.
Suggest Grand Bretagne or King George hotel.
