Villages in Greece

Any recommendations or advice about taking a day trip or from Athens (via plane or car) to visit some Greek villages? Would like to get out of Athens and visit some beautiful villages! If its via car I would most likely hire a driver/local guide from a tour company to take me as I can't drive!

I was looking at Zagorohoria for one day :)

Thoughts?

Hi Nina, great idea for a day trip with a local driver! Seems to me there are quite a few good guides here on Like a Local that can drive you, maybe try to meet up with a few that appeal to you while you're in the city and find someone you get along with, if you call a tour company you'll likely just have a driver that speaks english, not a guide. And where to go? I see you're thinking of going up North, it's beautiful up there and you'll likely be the only tourist around and it's quite cool up there this time of year. For this season I'd recommend the Peloponosos, go out by Corinth and then into "the Morea" as it used to be known. There are so many cool little villages, monastaries, castles, forts and ancient sites to visit, it's a great slice of Greece, and it's close. Good luck, have fun!!

Hello Nina,i advice you to visit Arachova village 1h45min,in our days it is very glamourous( but it is very beautiful and if you like you can visit also the ancient Delfi (landmark)which is very near 25min.if you have enough time go to Galaxidi, so after that you understand the brilliant morfologie of Grecce.it is not good idea to visit Zagorochorgia by a glance.

Have i nice stay

Hi Nina. Zagorohoria is beautiful but it is worth going only if you can stay overnight. Otherwise as everybody else is recommending Peloponissos I will suggest another idea. Go to Arachova, then to Delphi to see the beautiful archeoligical site and then head down to Galaxidi, a picturesque village by the sea. Have lunch there and then return. Or my favourite, take a daytrip to Hydra island.

Hello Nina,

For a one day trip I would also suggest Peloponnese as it won't take you very long to get to a village.

One good suggestion could be Kalavryta. Take a look at this travel guide for more info.

It would also be great if you could visit lake Doxa which is close to Kalavryta.

Here is a map to show you how to get there from Kalavryta
