If you want to get under the skin of a city, tasting and smelling is, without doubt, one of the most fascinating, fun and magical way of doing it.

Greek food has such a strong presence all round the world that I wasn’t sure how much I would learn (I’m just greedy, so I thought it would be a yummy day). What I hadn’t expected was the breadth and depth of knowledge our guide had, and - by contrast - just how little I actually knew! Greek salad in London (or anywhere else) has very little resemblance to Greek salad ...

Tiama took us from breakfast to dinner, from everyday peasant food to street food to elegant food, from savoury to sweet, from Greek coffee to mastika. We salivated over sesame bread, swooned over pita, breathed in the giddy smells of the spice market, crushed basil leaves between our fingers and learnt about herbs, ate olives so meaty I could almost go vegan if I had those in my life, went dreamy-eyed over thick Greek yogurt drizzled with thyme honey, and feasted on moussaka.

But it wasn’t just the food. As we walked round Athens, she wove the history of the city, its buildings, its traditions, its family life, its culture into the food we ate and tasted.

All this in just four hours. I could have read a book on Athens and not learned as much. I could have spent five days marching round with a guidebook and would not have learned as much.

I wanted another four hours, and then another four days of it! Tiama is absolutely superb as a guide. Her English is brilliant, she is funny, witty, brilliantly clever, and a lovely person to spend time with.

Thank you. Worth every single penny.

The most exciting way to see Athens

Great food experience with Elena
Elena was an excellent guide on the food tour. Her knowledge of Greek history and Greek food recipes was outstanding. I tried food that I normally wouldn’t try on holiday and enjoyed everything. This is my first time visiting Greece, I will be back. Regards, Rob Mann
Fantastic!
We got to experiment Athens like a local. We really felt our tour guide did an excellent job of introducing us to amazing Greek food while explaining the origin behind it, one of the best things she said was ,”I wanted this tour to be something I would take my friends or family to if they were visiting”. That’s exactly how we felt! We went to neighborhoods and restaurants we would have never found on our own. We absolutely loved it!
Thank you!

We could not recommend this tour enough. It was fantastic. The 3D tablet view of the monuments really added an extra dimension to the experience. Our guide was an Archeologist. So smart and knowledgeable. Our children loved the tour.

We were delighted with our tour of the Acropolis and with our guide, Evita. After being disappointed a the “official” guides we hired at two other sites (Knossos in Crete and Pompeii in Italy) we decided to try booking a guide in advance. We have two boys age 11 and 14 and we wanted a guide that would engage them -- and us adults too. And we got it. Evita was fun, interesting, and informative. They boys (and my wife) rated her a 10 out of 10. She was really great at engaging the kids and asking them questions. So they felt involved. She used to be a teacher and it shows. The iPads with 3D views were a nice but optional addition to the tour. It still would have been good without them. Overall our trip to the Acropolis created memories that will last for ever.

Our guide was an invaluable part of our experience at the Acropolis. If it wasn’t for her, I would have been looking at a bunch of old white pillars that meant nothing to me. There was little to no signage to explain what you’re looking at. Marilena brought the monuments to life with stories of mythology and daily life in Ancient Greece. She had iPads with a cool program where you could point them at a site and it would show you what it would have looked like at the time. Really helped make sense of what you’re looking at. Our group was very mixed in background knowledge including a toddler, 10 year old, archaeologist, and adults with no background in Ancient Greece. Marilena kept everyone engaged the entire time. (With the exception of the toddler, but that’s to be expected. And she was always understanding when he was distracting or one of us needed to step away from the group. She was great with him and made us feel he was welcome and enjoyed- a trait we’ve found lacking in other tour guides when faced with a strong-willed toddler). I’d strongly recommend her to anyone. Marilena also recommended a couple amazing local restaurants that we wouldn't have known about. She came to dinner with us and helped us chose food and wine. She's such a wealth of local knowledge. We laughed together and learned from her expertise. I feel like I truly made a friend.
