When you visit a new city, with adventure and curiosity in your soul, you have two choices in order to satisfy that need to explore new places and experiences: wander around with a guidebook in your pocket, aimlessly treading the path of some anonymous average tour guide - or pick up your camera, open your eyes to new experiences, and find a friendly, knowledgeable and generous local photographer to walk with. Whether you're a photographer or not, seeing the city through a photographer's eyes is to open your own eyes to wonder. If he's a passionate local too - even better. Vasilis of Photo Walks In Athens is just such a guide, if you're looking to see the best of the city (and beyond) in your limited time available - do it. We have so little time, there's so much to experience, get the very best experience for your precious effort. Vasilis will take you to the awesome famous historical places - but you'll get there enjoying the journey AND the destination, weaving your way through markets, and alleys, and by hidden gems such as have inspired poets and authors and artists for thousands of years.
My day with Vasilis resulted in hundreds of photos I'll keep forever, but much more importantly, memories of laughs and adventures fulfilled that have me looking forward to coming back to Athens, and walking with Vasilis again - and soon. Your Athens adventure couldn't be in better hands.

Great way too see the city's highlights!
I had to have a 2 day trip to Athens and among my work obligations I definitely wanted to photograph some of Athens’s picturesque spots and main attractions, as a passionate amateur photographer that I am!
Having not enough time to walk and discover the city myself, I chose PhotoWalksinAthens and I didn’t regret it at all!
Vassilis took me to all the beautiful spots of the area of Athens under and around the rock of Acropolis, through a very scenic route with a lot of photo opportunities along the way. While I was free and loose to do my thing, Vassilis revealed to me the right angle from the proper spot, to make a perfect travel shot. He would answer any of my questions, explain to me all the photography rules and technical details in a very simple and practical way making clear in my mind things I was confused with before!
Vassilis is a great resource of tips and hints about the city, too! I used his suggestions for my time in Athens and I didn’t regret it!
I enjoyed my time with PhotoWalksinAthens (and Vassilis’ humor!); I learn a lot about this historic city and came away with impressive travel shots and new techniques to use on my future travels!
Athens Dionysiou Areopagitou Street Photo Tour
An incredible day!!
We got an early start from Athens and first went to Thermopylae. It was amazing to stand where the battle took place. Then we went to Meteora and visited the Varlaam Monastery. It’s an easy walk up about 50 stairs and you’ll be rewarded with amazing history and scenery. We stopped for a snack and coffee And then we were off to Delphi to look for the Oracle and see the archeological site. If you want to go all the way up to the athletic stadium, it’s well worth it, but be prepared for a bit of a hike. We drove through the very picturesque Arachova and also stopped at a WWII memorial where a horrible atrocity took place. To this day, there is still an annual tribute to those who perished. We then went back to Athens and had a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.

I can’t recommend this tour highly enough. Theodore’s stories of Ancient Greece made the time pass so quickly. He can’t take you into the sites for a guided tour, but he thoroughly prepares you for what you’ll see and where to go once inside. Theodore will make your day an amazing experience!!

If you really want to meet Athens through your camera...
I decided to book this PhotoWalks in Athens tour as a birthday gift to a friend, as we share the same interest about photography and Athenian culture, so I got in touch with this amazing photographer Vasilis. He took us to all the highlights in the heart of Athens, Plaka, Anafiotika and all around the ancient area, showed us unrevealed photographic spots and offered us the opportunity to capture from different perspectives while he shared his deep knowledge of photography rules and techniques. He answered all of our questions and we gained valuable tips. Vasilis also proved to be an excellent guide as he gave us a lot of interesting information about history and heritage, and as a local he revealed his own city secrets, very helpful for a new Athens resident like myself.
Overall, a great experience for anyone who wants to discover Athens through an alternative tour. Not only will you take amazing shots and knowledge, but you will also enjoy the whole tour!

Exceptional
We actually have 2 tours in one day. We made the Acropolis in the morning and area Walking Street organization that night. Nikos was wonderful that morning for the trip to the Acropolis. That he knew so much story and my husband really enjoyed it and he has a great enthusiast of history. Elina was our nighttime street guide and it was so much a breath of fresh air. It was like entering a friend. We really got to hang with the locals and when we stopped eating we had a wonderful conversation and we learned a lot from both sides of the Atlantic. More than he would ever have learned with a huge organization. I felt very personal. She is so young with all her knowledge was amazing. My husband has been studying Greek history for years and was really excited to find someone who could teach him something new. Left el. a stone - activated. I would definitely recommend it to the lovers of history. Be sure to bring walking shoes together.

Unbeatable photo tour of Athens
I had a superb tour with the very knowledgable Vasilis today. As already noted his English, sense of humour, knowledge of the city, and enthusiasm for photography (and showing off the best of his city) are second to none. He immediately put me at my ease and once I began to share my photos he was full of ideas and subtle coaching to suggest better places to stand, or angles to use, or how to pick just the right moment to take my next photo. Athens is one of those places that seems to be on every traveller's wish list - it makes sense to spend that ambition wisely by being with a guide as pleasant and expert as Vasilis. I'm wondering now if I can make time for another tour later in the week - I enjoyed it that much.

Great tour. We had a very knowledgeable guide who gave us the historical background behind the foods we tasted.
We were introduced to a wide range of delicious foods, ranging from savory to sweet. Since there was a heat wave at the time, temperatures were very high, but thankfully the majority of the tour took place in air-conditioned restaurants/cafes, and also the walks from one location to the other were thankfully mostly shaded.
In general, excellent experience and introduction to Athens.

Great family fun!
Vasilis gave us a very enjoyable tour in the capital! We live in the country and do not visit Athens very often and it is always for business, but this time we had a lot of free time so we booked Photo Tours in Athens to show us around. We learned a lot about the city and ended up with a lot of great photos and memories! Vasilis was excellent with the kids too!
We highly recommend!

What an amazing experience!
This really is such a special way to visit this fabulous city! The sights and the very essence of Athens come alive with terrific Greek gentleman at the helm. He is a true artist and that reflects in every aspect of this tour. He is also a charming and interesting man who will leave you wanting to return to Athens again and again. I am very happy to recommend this to everyone.

Wonderful guide, Wonderful tour!
This was the only excursion we booked for Athens and it was terrific. Our guide was very knowledgeable and genuinely excited about what he was talking about. We loved not having to wait in lines or being part of a group too large to hear or ask questions.
Our only complaint is that we had the last tour before the Acropolis closed to tours - and our guide did not give us enough time at the end to take photos. We had less than 10 minutes and the people in charge of the Acropolis were rushing us out so we weren't able to take any photos on our way down that we missed on our way up. I would ask that the guide either give us an opportunity to take pictures on the way up - or leave about 15 - 20 min at the end of the tour - before closing - to take pictures at the top and on the way down.
