I love visiting interesting parks and gardens while travelling, and I know that the best ones are often hidden. Are there any that are particularly special?

Hi, Maria.

As others have mentioned, Zilker Park is the most obvious green space, but if you go, make sure you take a dip in the naturally fed, refreshingly cold Barton Springs and walk/mountain bike/or geocache along the adjoining trails.

Another must-do is "climb" the steps up Mount Bonnell, which provides a nice vista along the Lake Austin portion of the Colorado River. Stop at the tiny, casual Dry Creek Cafe for a beer afterward.

Hi Maria. There are tons of parks and trails in Austin.
- Zilker Park (think Central Park)
- Auditorium Shores (Has Dog Park)
- Greenbelt (http://www.greenbeltnow.com/)
- Leash-free Dog Parks (http://www.austintexas.gov/department/leash-areas)

I love the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center https://www.wildflower.org/ It is lovely and they are very knowledgeable about native plants especially. They have an arboretum with trees that are all descendants of famous historical Texas trees.

Austin botanical garden is pretty sweet. Depending on when you are traveling/visiting it could be a little crowded though. Zilker Park is an Austin classic offering some great views of the city across the lake. The Green belt is another classic Austin spot that follows a creek.
