I don/t advice a taxi. Choose driving service by recommendations. To be fair, the only blog posts really out there are restaurant posts or generic ’10 things to do in Baku’ posts, so there is not a lot of practical information out there aside from getting from village Baku via train, etc. I wrote this post day by day while I was in Baku, so many sections are in the order I encountered them or thought that the information could be useful for other travelers.

I had tried for five years to get a visa to Azerbaijan. Luck never worked in my favor and I was rejected nearly every single time until the last application where I was suddenly and astonishingly approved. I changed my plans all around in order to get there before they realized that they had finally approved my visa. I arrived in Kutaisi and took a bus to Tbilisi for a few days where I relaxed and sorted things before I was set to visit Baku.

Hi Jazib, I would recommend you to spend your first day only in Baku - you can go Old City (and also have a lunch there), walk in Boulevard, go to the Carpet Museum and visit small Venice. Afterwards, visit Heydar Aliyev Center - buliding is awesome and inside you can find lots of temporary and permanent exhibitions. Night you can spend in one of the clubs, or pubs recommended here. Next day you can Gobustan and Mud Volcanoes, and after that on another day to Sheki. You can go there by train (Sheki) that will take your whole night. It may be enough to stay in Sheki a day and in the evening you can come back to Baku.
