  • See rock engravings from the 10th century BC
  • Explore the incredible mud volcanoes
  • Stop at several 13th-century castles
  • Visit the Ateshgah fire temple

Description

The first stop on your trip will be the Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape – an interactive museum with rock engravings from the 10th century BC.

If the weather allows, we’ll make our way to the mud volcanoes – a good place for an off-roader ad! Azerbaijan is home to almost half of the world’s mud volcanoes. I’m not promising to show you all of them, but 15–20 will be enough for an unforgettable trip. You’ll feels as if you’re an adventurer on a new planet!

We’ll then head to the Ramana Castle, one of the Absheron castle complexes. There were once more than 30 castles/towers in the area, some of which are just ruins now. We’ll visit 3 well-preserved castles in total. Just note that these castles aren’t like the ones in Europe – they’re not for permanent living, but for temporary shelter.

Next, we’ll go to the Ateshgah fire temple, the Qala Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Complex, and 2 more castles/towers in Mardakan.

During the trip we can stop for tea or lunch, and there’s the possibility to go to the seashore. A trip to Yanar Dag at night can be added upon request.

Highly recommended guide to Baku
This was a great way to see a lot of sights in one day. Vladim was an excellent guide: very informative, and flexible, tailoring the trip to our needs. I would highly recommend this guide. If you take the long trip be sure to have a good breakfast first to set you up for an 8 hour day, or alternatively let the guide know you'd like to stop for lunch.
