Gin has become really popular in Barcelona, besides the well-known brands this place offers their own homemade gins! Also live music, which is not that easy to find in Barcelona sometimes.

You can order a glass or a bottle, but when you order a bottle of cava you must order at least one sandwich, but what seems to be an obligation is actually a pleasure, because sandwiches are minute made and you can choose from a huge variety.

There's a cozy, intimate atmosphere to the place, which has a somewhat intimidating stair to the cellar. Here's another bar, and seating. The space is sometimes used for DJ sessions and the like. Anything here's good, so go nuts.

This is great fun for the whole family, featuring a number of restaurants, a museum and activities for children. During the summer, you'll find a lot of concerts and other cultural events, including an open-air cinema, and there is actually a number of nightclubs there as well.

A great place to relax after sightseeing tour or last night's party and to experience art as the locals do. Do not expect anything more, just a pure enjoyment!

Milk is consistently popular, consistently good and always packed - a sure sign that they're on to something. Though it might look fairly ritzy from outside, the prices are not much higher per dish than the local café on the next corner, and the sofas are great for chilling, while picking up the pieces from the night before.

Lots of delicious sangria, (get the full pitcher, the 1/2 will cost you nearly the same and you will want more), variety of cheese and breads. Mushroom tapas to die for and many other choices, especially for meat eaters. While there was less selection for vegetarians, trust me you don't go hungry.

It's a bar as a bar should be. A place where people go to meet and have a beer. Simple as that. There are no fancy furniture, no fancy cocktails, no pop music. But there is an old very nice couple that manages the bar. They always have a big smile on their faces, some words of wisdom for you and old spanish music. Really good atmosphere.

If the endless bacodillos and the sub-standard kebabs of Raval are finally getting you down, Marmalade might be the ticket - the service is friendly, informal and speedy, and the food very decent for the price. Plus, they also have a pool table for some post-dinner "exercise".

Filferro has a great mix of tapas and sandwiches at reasonable prices, and for once the sandwiches actually feel like proper food - not just cardboard with cold cuts. A good selection of drinks and daily specials complete the menu.

The open kitchen means the smell of food is always in the air, so go for lunch or dinner first, then stay for drinks. The music's usually a mix of classics, but at least it's not a radio blaring in the background.

La Penultima is a little outpost away from the sometimes tiring party-life of Gayxample. It's a very different vibe, not nearly as boozy and cruisy, and the sofas in the back make for great relaxation. Perfect for your night out

33 / 45 is awfully hip, but not so much that you'll feel left out. The music's mostly good, and the bar is divided into two rooms. The front is more of a cafe, whereas the back has a very lounge-y feel. So yes, cocktails.

Apart from providing a budget option, Absenta is popular with the local student types and expats looking for a bargain. The music is often quite decent, and the snacks surprisingly good for the price you're paying.

They have live music frequently and there's usually great ambiance. Also, I would recommend trying the selection of burguers they have, with a funny variety of names. The karaoke is always fun to watch, with locals and tourists singing in front of everyone.
