Why locals love it

La Candela has a prime location, just a few steps from the tourist track. The quiet plaza lends it self well to al fresco dining, definitely one of the La Candelas major features. But it's not just the location; the food too is well done with a nice selection of updated classics and international favorites at reasonable prices.

Why you should visit it

La Candela is a quirky restaurant in the midst of a generally very streamlined tourist route. The decor has a retro feel to it, and they're fast believers in slow food, sourcing most produce locally and organic when available. The staff can be a bit stretched, so be patient - you'll get yours.

Special tip

Try their take on classics like pimientos and bravas, known here as potato peels.

As an older traveler, I find that it's places like these that really enhance your experience in the city. I was also able to learn my Spanish and practice at local cafes. A friend recommended this article to me when I was abroad and I can't help but reshare as it really did help me a lot. https://www.vbtcafe.com/nobody-is-too-old-for-learning-spanish/
