MACBA is so modern, so hip, that it almost hurts. Well, only almost. The iconic building houses a world-class modern art museum. And MACBA is always taking risks - their exhibitions are well-presented, but not always what you could or would call mainstream. No wonder the area hosts the daytime events of electronic music festival Sonar.

Why you should visit it
Even if only to appreciate the architecture, MACBA is another Barcelona must. Also, the side streets around can be extremely rewarding, as they house a number of smaller shops and pubs, catering to the art crowd.
