A large part of Picassos formative years were spent in Barcelona, where he also had his first exhibit. This period of the famed painters life is documented in the Picasso Museum, which holds an extensive collection of early works and sketches.

Why you should visit it
To get an idea of where Picasso began as an artist, the museum is great. Many people will probably be a bit disappointed of the lack of his major works, but it makes for an interesting insight in the birth of one of the greatest modern artists.
Special tip
Get there early. Note that the museum is open on most public holidays, excepting bank holidays - there's an overview on their website.
