After meeting your guide you’ll travel by train to the centre of Catalonia, arriving in the Penedès wine region one hour later. Thanks to the bright sun and the Mediterranean Sea, this region has one of the widest varieties of grapes of any wine region in the world.
The tour takes place in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. It’s in these fields where the most international Catalan product is born: cava. You’ll get to know the origins of this sparkling wine on an entertaining journey though the history and culture of the town.
First you’ll visit Freixenet, one of the most traditional cellars in the country, dating back to 1861. Here, you’ll learn everything about the cava production process, from the first pressing of the grapes to the secondary fermentation. You’ll also get to taste a selection of their cavas.
Next, enjoy a walking tour through the centre of Sant Sadurní and learn about the importance of cava in the historical development of the area.
The morning will end at the La Fassina cava welcome centre, a former distillery that now offers an interactive journey through the history and culture of Sant Sadurní.
