Our guide, Francisco Miro, provided expert local knowledge and planned an excellent day touring the old town of Sitges, the mountain village of Montserrat and the cava cellars of Freixenet. The itinerary allowed time to enjoy each stop, and included lunch at a hilltop vineyard restaurant. We recommend that visitors to Barcelona explore the countryside with Francisco, who also offers complete day tours within the city.

Highlights

Discover the Montserrat Natural Park with a local

Visit the monastery and the basilica

Description

It takes around one hour to reach Montserrat from Barcelona. On our way there, we’ll see growing towns on the outskirts of the city, where many locals have relocated to in recent years.

Once we reach the bottom of the mountain, we’ll enjoy a scenic drive from the back to the front. After parking, we’ll walk to one of the best vantage points in the region; it sits at 750 metres above sea level and overlooks the entire area.

Next, we’ll pass by some local stalls to sample regional delicacies: cheeses, liquors, fig cake, and membrillo (quince).

We’ll then visit both the monastery and the basilica before driving back to Barcelona.

NB! If you’d like to include a mountain hike in the itinerary, please let me know so I can customise a tour with more time.

My family and I had an amazing tour with Francisco to Montserrat - highly recommend it. He picked us up at our apartment and was immediately friendly and engaging. We had a great conversation on our drive to Montserrat talking about history and geology of the region. He told us all about the Monastery & the mountain. We stopped at food stalls, he took GREAT photos, we saw the boys choir - everything we wanted. He tailored the trip perfectly to our interests and my kids. It was a wonderful day.
Francisco was one of the best guides we've ever had! He was very knowledgeable & gave great explanations and information on the history & facts of the various sites we visited. Francisco was also very flexible and considerate of our agenda of special things we wanted to see & do. I told him at the end of our tour "You're the best guide, the best driver, and the best photographer we've ever had!!!"
