Mariusz was very knowledgeable and was able to give us a lot of the history of the region and in particular the Romans in Tarragona. He was very chatty and friendly and gave us tips of where to eat etc in Barcelona too. We all enjoyed the tour and would definitely recommend it!

Description

If you’re interested in the history of Catalonia, this is the tour for you! Travel back to the times of Imperial Rome by visiting the ancient capital of Hispania Citerior.

Tarragona is located 100 kilometres south of Barcelona on the Costa Dorada. It’s home to one of the most important and best-preserved Roman archaeological sites in Spain, also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Tarragona, the first stop being one of the entrances to this historical city. You’ll see the impressive Les Ferreres Aqueduct aka Devil’s Bridge, which is a Roman aqueduct.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore the ancient walls surrounding the city and see one of the best-preserved circuses in Europe, hidden under 19th-century building structures. You’ll also see traces of the ancient Roman forum and the ruins of the amphitheatre, located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea.

The tour will end on the so-called “balcony of the Mediterranean”, an observation point where you can admire beautiful views of the beach, the ocean and the historical city.

Spectacular
This trip was well worth it. Away from the city you see amazing views of Catalunya. The salt mountain was spectacular, it's definitely worth seeing. My family loved every part of the trip. Our tour guide Mauriusz was very helpful and knowledgeable. They picked us up at our apartment and kindly dropped us off at the restaurant we were wanting to go to in the evening.

Informative and fun
Cardona and the Castle were so beautiful! It was a small group of 4 and our guide, Nuria, was super informative and helpful. She knew a lot of history behind the castle which was very interesting. The salt mines were interesting and they provide their own tour guide for that but it's in Catalan. They provide an englidh audio guide to follow along but Nuria came along and translated extra info and fun facts along the way. The tour ended with a late lunch/snack at a lake which isn't on the itinerary but since our group was small was an easy detour. If you like history and getting to know the small town of Cardona then you will find this tour very interesting.

Cardona and Salt Mine Tour
Overall a great day! We specifically came to Barcelona to book a day trip to Cardona and Salt Mountain. Communication with the tour operator was excellent, they were very quick to respond and professional. Our tour guide was also professional and kind, arriving at the specified time (9am). He was also very accommodating asking about car seats for the kids, advising what parts may not be suitable for those who are less mobile, and helping out when some of the passengers got car sick. Unfortunately the day of our tour there were protests/strikes all over the state. Our driver did his best to go around it all to get to our destinations. We had to miss out on the salt mines and entering Cardona Castle. We were able to walk around the castle, but as i mentioned, we came to Barcelona specifically to visit Cardona, so this was a disappointment. No fault of the tour operator as the protests and strikes were not in their control. I was expecting a walking tour of the town of Cardona or maybe a bit more history of the Castle and town, but we didn’t get that. Instead of the Salt Mines we went to Monserrat, which was beautiful and a lovely replacement for the Salt Mines. We were brought back as close to our hotel as possible (due to the demonstrations), around 3:30 pm, so the tour was no where near 11 hours long (but again, mostly due to missing out on some attractions due to the strike). Overall, I would definitely recommend this tour operator, just keep the lines of communication open as per your expectations.
