My colleague and I stayed a couple extra days after a week of business, and this was definitely a highlight. Saskia, our guide was awesome! She's very friendly, fun and knowledgeable about all things Barcelona, wine country and Spain in general. She took us to two great wineries, where we got a great education on their grape growing process, history and tasting techniques. At the second place, we started with an authentic, leisurely lunch at a small winery restaurant where the wine make and his parents greeted us! All in all, a fantastic day-- thanks so much to our superb guide Saskia!!

Description

This fun and informative day trip gives you the unique opportunity to sample a variety of fabulous wines and cavas (Spanish sparkling wines) and enjoy a great meal in an amazing environment.

We’ll visit two small vineyards in Alt Penedès, which is the upper part of the Penedès wine region, located about 40 minutes southwest of Barcelona. Alt Penedès is known for its small-batch boutique wines. The morning stop will include a brief tour as well as an introduction to the region and its wines, followed by a tasting of three different products.

Next, we’ll drive a short distance to the second vineyard, where we’ll venture out into the fields for a brief presentation about the history of the region, the grape varieties grown and the processes involved in making wine. We’ll then visit the cellar for an explanation about the equipment used, storage processes and bottling methods.

Afterwards, we’ll head to the tasting room for very generous tastings of whites, reds and a reserve cava. All of this will be enjoyed over a traditional Catalan meal including select cured meats and cheeses, olives, tomato salad, bread with tomatoes and olive oil and Spanish tortilla (similar to quiche).

Of course, everything you taste is available for purchase at the vineyards.

Had an absolutely perfect tour of the Penedes Wine Region. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Saw 2 completely different wineries and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Definitely one of our favorite things we did in Barcelona!
