Why locals love it
As soon as it's warm enough the Rhein is the place to be! The side of Kleinbasel is sunnier and therefore busier. There are bars called Buvettes at the shore and you can either sit on one of the tables or take your drink closer to the water and enjoy it with your feet in the river. And you should absolutely swim in the Rhein!

Why you should visit it
The Rhein is perfect to hang out on a warm sunny day! And you should absolutely swim in the river! Put your stuff in a waterproofed bag (called fish because of their shape, you can buy them almost anywhere) and off you go. As long as you follow the rules (you'll find signs explaining them) it's not dangerous at all.
Special tip
You can just chill hanging on your bag and go with the flow! Not convenient for small children...
