The entire museum was closed during the renovation works between 2007 and 2017. The building is an interesting example of museum architecture worldwide. It is surrounded by a sculpture park with works by the most significant Yugoslav sculptors of the 20th century.
The museum, located in Usce Park in New Belgrade, contains more than 8,000 works and the biggest collection of Yugoslav art in the world. It was first opened on October 20, 1965. The collection includes important works from the 20th and 21st Century by the likes of Sava Sumanovic, Petar Lubarda, Julia Knifer, Jovan Bijelic and many more.
