This 130 meters high building adorns the city center like nothing else! Designed in 1943 by the architect Luiz Pinto Coelho and inaugurated in 1947, its art déco façade exhibits two superb sculptures depicting gargoyles in honor to the Acaiaca tribe. According to the legend, the two frowns empower and strengthen the tribe.

It's an architecture masterpiece! Built during WW2, it had an air-raid shelter, today used as a loading and unloading terminal. It also had a cinema, a luxurious nightclub and several ostentatious shops. Nowadays, it houses offices and a church. Nice pictures of the Acaiaca can be taken across the avenue from the front door of the São José Church.
The last floor lodges exhibitions and has a stunning view. When there are no exposition, you can book a visit contacting edificioacaiaca@gmail.com.
