The Governor Juscelino Kubitschek Assembly (JK Building) is a historical monument of Belo Horizonte. Projected in 1952 by Oscar Niemeyer, this iconic edifice (there are actually two: the tall and the smaller one) is one of BH's postcard. The construction was inspired on the phalansteries (buildings designed for a self-contained utopian community).

It was supposed to have a museum, public offices and residencies for its employees and shops. Today, it's a residential complex. Unless you know one of the dwellers, you're not alowed to enter the apartments, but its worth a visit from outside. Contrary to what people say, it is not the tallest building in town, but you'll be amazed by its height.
Visitors must show their IDs to enter and leave the condominium. After 10pm, the entry of strangers is only allowed in the company of a host resident.
