Located in downtown, the Mercado Novo (New Market) is the epitome of Belo Horizonte tradition. In the old days, we citizens used to go there to buy food, domestic utensils, old books, print stuff. Today, we are still doing it, but having a lot more fun.

It was inaugurated in 1960, and has spent long years almost at a standstill. Initially, it was occupied by print shops, used bookstores, food stalls etc. Few years ago, the market went through a major twist, becoming also a space dedicated to cultural events, gastronomy, coffee shops, drinking and meeting alternative people, its biggest goers.
The 2nd floor is the place for bars, restaurants and cultural events. It opens also in the evening, unlike the common market.
