The building was designed to be a casino, today it houses the Pampulha Art Museum. Influenced by Le Corbusier, Oscar Niemeyer conceived the shapes of this building, which is sorrounded by gardens projected by the illustrious landscaper Roberto Burle Marx. To the landscaping, statues of the masters Ceschiatti, Zamoyski and José Pedrosa were added.

The museum is part of the architectonic complex of the Pampulha Lagoon. Its collection has about 1.500 works of exponents of art such as Alberto Guignard, Di Cavalcanti, Ivan Serpa, Tomie Ohtake, Franz Weissman, Amilcar de Castro, Iberê Camargo, Fayga Ostrower and Oswaldo Goeldi, besides a significant collection of brazilian engravings.
