Inaugurated in 1936, the Raul Soares Square was inspired by the european gardens. The place is definitely beautiful, with 12 flowerbeds, one fountain and stone pavements designed in portuguese style. It was constructed on the city's ground zero, in the encounter of four major avenues, connecting the north, south, east and west regions.

It used to be an unsafe place, sort of a headquarter for criminals, homeless and prostitutes. In 2008, restoration works gave the place new gardens, better lighting and police reinforcement. Do it like local residents: take an evening walk along its 400m circuit, bordered by high buildings (like the iconic JK) and centered by the fountain.
The musical fountain displays from monday to friday, from 8am to 10pm, noon to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm.
