Commonly called "Praça 7" (7 Square), the September 7th Square is one the busiests places in Belo Horizonte, located at the intersection of the Afonso Pena and Amazonas avenues, marked by the famous obelisk affectionately called "lollipop" (Pirulito, in portuguese) by the citizens.

The square, named in commemoration of the Centennial of the Independence of Brazil, marks the zero point of Belo Horizonte hypercenter. Nice buildings surround the area, specially the Cine Brasil, an art déco construction founded in 1932.
