Monkey bar!!! Absolutely a must!! Great atmosphere, nice view, good music. I suggest an aperitivo, but not too late, otherwise very crowded....
Hi there!
I could recommend doing some bar hopping in Neuköllns Schillerkiez. In this small area, you can find a lot of cool bars. I've made a list with most of them: https://foursquare.com/evahoefsloot/list/kroegentocht-schillerkiez
If you want to have dinner in that area beforehand and have a little bit more to spend, I would def. recommend Lavanderia Vecchia or La Pecora Nera. But there are a lot of cheaper options as well.
Otherwise go to Kreuzberg / Neuköllns Reuterkiez. The Hobrechtstraße in the middle of this area has a lot of cool bars. In some side alleys you can find nice restaurants or go to the Maybach Ufer and have dinner at Café Jacques.
If you have more questions, just ask away! You can probably also find a lot on my blog: http://blackbirdsandblossom.com

Restaurant "Deponie", Restaurant "Tiergartenquelle", Restaurant "Spreegold". Very urban and nativ ;-)
Madame manouche in Kreuzberg is a quite cool place.
Upsidedown furniture on the ceiling and an open stage(live music) of good quality every sunday.
Besides, Bohnengold in reichenberger str. is a really cool bar extending into a club. Free ( or basically free) entry, funky place, electronic berlin beats.

If by locals you mean non expats, then check out Yaam on the banks of the Spree. Great for an afternoon chillout. There's a fantastic beer garden called Prater on Kastanienallee, and around the corner in Oderburgerstrasse is the classic dive bar Nemo. If that floats your boat, check out Mokum over on Danziger Str as well. Recommended for a taste of the Real (old) Berlin..
Roberto mentions Monkey Bar three times here. I work 'cross the street and I have visited it several times. I love the view and the place. It is, however, definitely not the place to meet locals. last time I was there, the crowd was clearly 90+ % tourists, both domestic and from abroad.
