Different places to feel Berlin

(3 answers)
By Rita Traveller November 7, 2017

Hi everyone! I'll be visiting Berlin with my parents middle December.
I've looked up on the internet for monuments but I'd like to know a few different places to visit like coffees, bars, parks, or just a simple place.
I'm really into feeling the city so I'm hoping maybe you can help me.
Thank you in advance xx

Hi Rita,
Check out our culinary tours. Visiting in December you can also jump onto one of our Christmas Market tours.
Thanks,
Dov
Hi Rita! What a nice question! I like the idea of searching for places to actually "feel" Berlin.

I don't know much about you or your parents and how to feel a city is a very personal thing. So what might be perfect for me might be completely wrong for others. One person feels Berlin somewhere between KitKat Club and Berghain. This is not my cup of tea and I doubt it would your parents'.

OK, so here my choice of places to actually FEEL Berlin:

Climb Teufelsberg. You can visit the old Abhörstation where the CIA monitored the eastern military radio or you can just climb the Drachenberg (called little Teufelsberg) where you have a stunning view over Berlin.

Visit Victoriapark in Kreuzberg - best at dawn - and climb the Kreuzbergdenkmal.

Visit a Weihnachtsmarkt. My suggestion would be the one in front of the Schloss Charlottenburg. Come early in the afternoon and have a stroll in the really beautiful park of the castle before its getting dark. I love it. I go there for running. If you come in the morning go to the rear end of the park to the "Belvedere". There is a tree that smells like fresh candy floss! It's magic!

Don't miss a walk on the illuminated Kurfürstendamm. You don't have to be a shopping addict to like the myriads of lights in the trees on this boulevard in december.

Go to Markthalle Moabit or Markthalle 9 for lunch. I prefer the first. One of these is not an option, its a must ;-)

Due to 1500 letter restriction:

A nice alternative to the Weihnachtsmarkt at Schloss Charlottenburg is the Lucia Weihnachtsmarkt at Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauer Berg. Its a Scandinavian Weihnachtsmarkt so you'll get Glögg instead of Glühwein.

If you prefer the more loud and crowded alternative, its one of the big Weihnachtssmärkte at Breitscheidplatz or Alexanderplatz (no christmas feeling here at all, instead of this: fairground rides). There will be lots of police this year due to last years truck attack.

You can search at www.stilinberlin.com great reviews.
My personal favorite area of different cafes, bars and restaurants is between Rosentaller Platz and Hackesher market. Such as Chen Che, East & Eaden, Superfood & Liquids, Father Carpenter, the Barn, Factory Girl, Princess Cheesecake, District Mot, Zeit for Brot and dosens around. Check out the yard of Haus of Shwarzenberg and Clarchens Ball house (spigel saal). Bars are great there Zosch, Absent deport, Bar ICI, Z bar, Mein Haus am See, New Odessa bar, Weinerei Forum, and hidden Buck and Breck.
