Description

Half a million visitors to Berlin check out the Berlin Olympic Stadium each year and for any sports enthusiast this is an essential part of any trip to Berlin.

The Olympic stadium was the site of Hitler’s 1936 Olympics with the original Nazi architecture still in place. Its now the home of Bundesliga Hertha Berlin, Berlins biggest football club.

We first vist the Bell Tower to get a spectacular view over the stadium itself and West Berlin. We make a tour of the inside of the stadium and take position where the Hertha Ultras stand in the East Curve. We discuss the history of Hertha BSC their latest dreams of finally becoming the “Big City” club.

We see the original Olympic bell, a relic of the 3rd Reich, cracked, with a bullet hole from fighting at the end of the WW2. We visit the surrounding areas of the Olympic stadium filled with original architecture from the 1936 games.

We then visit the nearby Hertha BSC training grounds and facilities at Schenkendorffplatz and finally we make a stop in at the small museum which pays tribute to the British and American services stationed in the Olympic Stadium grounds during the cold war.
