The most wonderful thing about this tour was Preston - he has this amazing catalog of information about everything (not just Potsdam), and I learned more on this tour than anywhere else. The weather was perfect, so we did a fair amount of walking through the parks and Potsdam (which ended with swimming in a lake and enjoying beer). I would recommend this tour to anyone hoping to get out of Berlin and learn some history!

Description

The Prussian kings ruled Berlin with pomp, grandeur and an iron fist, but Potsdam is the place where they really left their mark. Spectacular palaces, endless gardens, gushing fountains, winding waterways and faux Greco ruins compose this summertime playground of royal proportions – a worthy rival to the splendour of Paris’ Versailles if ever there was one.

After a short train ride from the city centre we’ll spend the day taking in the big-hitters, including Frederick the Great’s pleasure palace, Sanssouci, his boastful Neue Palais and the Schloss Cecilienhof, where Churchill, Truman and Stalin carved Berlin and Germany into four.

Be prepared to venture off the beaten track and into some of the hidden corners of Park Sanssouci and the Neuer Garten, too.

At the end of the day we’ll stop on the edge of the Havel river and sip on a cold beer or several, courtesy of the bankside brewery The Meierei. And if you’re up for a swim, bring your trunks – one of Berlin’s best swimming lakes, Heiliger See, is a stone’s throw from where we finish.

Preston was the best!
Preston was a great guide. Thoroughly explained everything, answered questions, and had a good sense of humor. Would recommend.
Insane value for money
The six hours we spent exploring the centre of Berlin just flew by, and I learned so much. Polly knows her subject - she studied German and history - and she is also friendly, funny, a great story teller, and able to convey some pretty grim facts with just the right degree of sensitivity and nuance. I have done plenty of walking tours in different cities and this was one of the best. Highly recommended.
Wonderful
Julia our tour guide is amazingly brilliant. No dull moment. She shown us around the city with thorough precision and loads of history. Thank goodness I booked this tour . 💋❤️💋❤️💋❤️
Awesome guide, awesome tour!
Glad to have booked this tour.
My partner and I made a last minute booking to come to Berlin for a short three night break. We had never been to Berlin, so when we saw the walking tour advertised we had to book it on line before we arrived, and how pleased we both were that we did. Our guide Jonathan had a wealth of knowledge to impart to us but didn't swamp us with too much information, in fact we both felt he had got just the right balance and an excellent sense of humour made for a really enjoyable tour and although the trip was initially a daunting six hour duration it passed far too quickly and by the end we both felt we had received a good digest of central Berlin and we looked forward to our evening trying out some of the bars and restaurants we had seen.
