Very glad to have taken the day tour to Dresden. The re-build of this city that was completely annihilated during the war is nothing short of spectacular. Our guide, Nadav, provided great context during the two-hour bus ride from Berlin led us on a tour of the city making sure we understood the history of the city and the details of the reconstruction effort. We were given time to tour and eat on our own before returning to Berlin. On the ride home, he visited with each family/group and answer any remaining questions. Our teen-aged child rated this the best experience of our four days in Berlin. The price was extremely reasonable and we recommend this to anyone willing to take a two-hour walking tour.

Description

Dresden was the royal residence established to be cultural and artistic splendour, therefore called the “Pearl of the Baroque”. Today, it’s still considered one of Germany’s most beautiful cities, though it’s also known for the devastating bombing campaign of February 1945.

US and Royal Air Force bombers dropped 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs on Dresden during three days, destroying 13 square miles of the city and causing a firestorm of such intensity that approximately 40,000 civilian died.

On the tour we’ll explore the immaculately restored Old Town, including the famous Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche), “The Balcony of Europe” – once Dresden’s defensive rampart on the River Elbe, the Semper Opera House and the Zwinger – a medieval fortress that houses the Old Masters Picture Gallery, featuring works by Raphael, Rembrandt, Rubens and others.

You'll discover Dresden through the ages, from the time of August the Strong (who allegedly fathered 300 children) to the horrors of wartime, the communist era and the vibrant city that is Dresden today. Take advantage of your free time and visit its world-class museums, relax on the waterfront or stroll through the flea market.

Great Day Trip to Dresden with an excellent guide
During our recent trip to Berlin, we had the pleasure to go on a day trip to Dresden. Everything was well organized resulting in a very good trip with a fantastic guide from Israel and very good time management. Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable and most informative with his commentary about the areas that we travelled through and visited. He included lots of useful information without overwhelming the group with too many dates and extraneous details.
Day trip to †Dresden‡
We did the Day Trip to Dresden with Insider Tour Berlin. Our tour guide was Orit. We couldn't have asked for a better tour OR a better guide. Orit was incredibly knowledgeable about Dresden (and Berlin for that matter). Dresden is an amazing city - beautiful and interesting. I would totally recommend this tour.
