Description

Your expert guide will take you to the Berlin Wall Memorial and show you exactly where the Wall once stood, tell you how it was built, and explain how the ‘death strip’ stopped East Berliners escaping to the West. You’ll hear the stories of those who lost their lives, learn how the Wall was erected overnight, and find out how some people managed to escape to West Berlin.

You’ll then journey further into East Berlin, passing the monumental TV Tower and arriving at Karl-Marx-Allee – Europe’s last grand boulevard. This impressive showcase of communism was a monument to Stalin until all reference to the Man of Steel was removed without a word from East Germany’s communist leaders.

Next, you’ll visit the headquarters of the terrifying institution that defined life in East Germany – the secret police, or Stasi. The Stasi controlled all information in the East;, their increasing paranoia resulting in neighbours spying on neighbours, not to mention the common sudden “disappearances” that were part of East German life.

The tour ends at the Bösebrücke, where East German protestors made it through the Wall on November 9, 1989, bringing an end to more than 40 years of divided Germany.

Berlin Walking Tour
We were so impressed with the walking tour.
Dave was so knowlegable, considerate and amusing.
We learnt so much that truly helped us enjoy our further few days in Berlin. Fantastic information passed on in a way that was easy to understand and easy to remember.
Dave included everyone and spent the right amount of time at each stage if the tour.
Everyone felt comfortable and we didn't want the tour to end. It was the highlight of our holiday.
Thank you.
Amazing insightful tour
Sarah was superb, this was a great way to not only capture the highlights of this city but to get your bearings geographically. Where didn't we go! From the story of Ampelman (I am so glad they retained some of the flavour of east Berlin), to be standing on the bunker site where Hitler and Eva went to ground. One of the most profound memorials was in the Neue Wach it's a minimalist memorial, a building with a sculpture in it of a woman holding her dying child. They have opened the roof and there is a round hole above her so when it rains or snows, she gets wet.

Awesome walking tour with Chris!
We had Chris as a guide and the guy is great. He gave us a pretty complete intro to German history, so that the tour had a context and we could understand easier why the city is the way it is today. It was a 4-hour walk which gives a good idea of what you might want explore more in depth.

Jonathon was an excellent tour guide. His knowledge of the sights, history and storytelling was great. Even though the weather wasn't on our side he made the tour interesting and fun. A definite tour to take and see all the main landmarks.
