The tour begins with a 25-kilometre train journey to Potsdam where our bikes will be waiting for us. In 6.5–7 hours, including transport time, we’ll cover around 16 kilometres (10 miles). There’s a bit more cycling involved compared to our other Berlin tours, however Potsdam is quite flat with lots of sights and stops.
With more than 20 palaces, numerous parks and gardens, unique WWII and Cold War history and a distinct present-day flair, Potsdam is much more than the “Versailles of Berlin”. It has earned its UNESCO World Heritage status in many ways.
Throughout the day you’ll come to understand the Potsdam Agreement's impact on Europe at the close of WWII and how it foreshadowed an era of tension and distrust in the ensuing Cold War. Entry to Cecilienhof Palace, the venue for the Potsdam Conference, is included in the tour price. We’ll give you plenty of time to explore the interiors!
It’s always interesting to compare the Potsdam of today – a vibrant university city filled with creative minds and energy, with its troubled past behind the Iron Curtain. And remember to bring a camera – Potsdam isn’t just a cyclist’s playground, it’s also ideal for taking pictures!
