The special themes for summer 2013 seem to have been carefully selected as they include comprehensive retrospectives of well-known film geniuses – every film is a cinema classic that requires nothing less than the big screen. Scandalous Cinema, Cult and Freak Films, Movie Gem, Forbidden Films and Docs are a few of the many themes this summer at Rooftop Cinema.

There are many highlights this summer, for instance the retrospective week of the most important director of the French New Wave, Francois Truffaut, starting July 5. Superb rare movies will be shown on the big screen – Jules & Jim, The 400 Blows, The Last Metro, Stolen Kisses and Shoot the Piano Player. It’s worth mentioning that The 400 Blows was one of the masterpieces of the period. François Truffaut, who was formerly a passionate film critic and proponent of the auteur theory, finally made the type of film he had been urging other directors to make.

August brings great news for Martin Scorsese fans. Raging Bull, Mean Streets, Alice Does Not Live Here Anymore, Goodfellas and Taxi Driver will all be screened as part of a special program fittingly called Marty-spective.

Besides the films already mentioned, Rooftop Cinema will be showing many loved, rare and unique films like Searching For Sugar Man, Happiness, Forrest Gump, Leaving Las Vegas, This is Spinal Tap etc.

So if you’re up for spending some time with the movie freaks of Tallinn while enjoying an amazing view of the city, the Rooftop Cinema is the place to head at sunset. Besides movies you can enjoy a variety of tailor-made hot or cold beverages at their terrace café or have a chilled out lunch or dinner in the sun courtesy of the beloved chefs of the Japanese restaurant MoMo. Using the Like A Local iPhone app will also get you a special offer at the café.
