Why locals love it
Locals prefer this place to spend weekends out of dynamic Bogotá. This little town is located in Boyacá, the department next to Cundinamarca (Bogotá). The village is very picturesque, colonial style and it is full of history as it is the land of Antonio Ricaurte, a captain of Bolívar's army, patriot of the Independence of Colombia and Venezuela.
Why you should visit it
Villa de leyva offers you a piece of Latin-American history; there are museums, art galleries. A very romantic town with nice restaurants and very kind people. You can visit the birthplace of Antonio Ricaurte and on the way back to Bogotá visit the Boyacá Bridge, place of one of the most important battles for the independence of South America.
try some hot chocolate at night while sitting in the main square. Do not forget to try those little cookies called "besos de novia" (bride's kisses)
