The official founding date of the University of Bologna is 1088, but actually the building of Archiginnasio (1563) was built to put together many different premises. The library inside the building is one of the greatest historical libraries in the world, with codes, manuscripts, ancient books.

Why you should visit it
A fascinating building, where you can smell the ancient greatness of Bologna's University. These rooms were for many centuries a real forge of culture and science, which contributed the progress of humanity. The cloister is surrounded by thousands of escutcheons of ancient scholars and professors.
Special tip
On the first floor, with just 3 euros, you can visit the "Dissecting Room". In this room, the corpses were dissected during the anatomy lessons.
